'A fresh new start for Starfish Swim School'

Located off Centre Road, Bentleigh, BJ Lamm opened Starfish Swim School in 2008 in a run down, 12 metre by 4 metre pool. Bj and his team began to get quite a following through their nurturing and well rounded curriculum. To facilitate the demand, in 2013, the old pool was knocked down, and the new facility was purpose-built and opened in 2014 with the latest amenities in swimming technology and customer comfort.

BJ believes that by listening to his clients and understanding their needs, the new facility will cater to all clientele and will represent his vision of the perfect, purpose built Swim School.

The Starfish Philosophy

Starfish Swim School caters for children between the ages of 6 months to 13 years.

Swim schools have a responsibility to teach more than the fundamental swimming strokes. It’s just as much about educating, understanding and nurturing both the parents’ and the child’s needs. Swimming can help children to become risk takers and overcome fears and insecurities. As swimming coaches, we can help children to become confident in and out of the water. It’s a role that we are passionate about and take on whole-heartedly. We also believe that children should have fun, because when they are happy they are better learners.

BJ and his team take the time to get to know each parent and child. It’s a personal relationship and one that our families value and invest in. Each child learns differently — they are individuals and we treat them that way. Together, we can celebrate each child’s success and achievements with rewards along the way.

By developing friendships with both the parents and children, Starfish Swim School has a relaxed and enjoyable feel. This helps to attract and retain the best swim coaches and give children the consistency that they need.

Our school strives to:

Teach children a life skill in which they will treasure and use for fun, exercise and to stay safe in and around any aquatic environment;

Provide this skill in the most encouraging and nurturing environment, with challenges and rewards when excellence is mastered; and

Provide an efficient and effective program that understands each child’s needs and ability.
